The Ford Ranger has built its reputation around capability, manageable size and everyday practicality. Now, the previous-generation Ranger has another accolade to add to the list, with 2019-2023 models being recognized among the most reliable used pickup trucks.

According to Ford Authority’s report on the most reliable used pickup trucks, the Ranger earned its place on a list compiled by CarBuzz using reliability data from J.D. Power. The recognition covers the North American Ranger’s 2019 through 2023 model years, making it particularly relevant for shoppers considering a relatively recent used midsize truck.
That generation of Ranger marked the nameplate’s return to the Canadian and U.S. markets for the 2019 model year. Under the hood, every North American version used Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, producing 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

One of the Ranger’s strengths was its ability to combine that relatively compact footprint with genuine truck capability. Depending on configuration and equipment, it offered towing capacity of up to 7,500 pounds, making it suitable for everything from utility trailers and boats to many recreational trailers. Four-wheel-drive models also provided plenty of capability for drivers who regularly venture beyond paved roads.
Reliability becomes increasingly important when shopping for any used vehicle, and trucks present an additional consideration because their previous lives can vary dramatically. Some Rangers may have spent most of their time commuting, while others could have accumulated kilometres towing, hauling or travelling off-road. A strong model-level reliability record is encouraging, but a pre-purchase inspection and complete maintenance history remain important when evaluating an individual used truck.
For BC drivers, the Ranger’s combination of midsize dimensions and useful capability can make a lot of sense. It’s easier to manoeuvre around the Lower Mainland than a full-size pickup while still offering the towing, cargo and four-wheel-drive capability needed for weekend adventures farther afield.
With the 2019-2023 Ford Ranger now firmly established in the used market, recognition for reliability adds another reason these trucks may deserve a closer look. Whether you’re searching for a practical daily driver, a weekend adventure vehicle or a capable midsize pickup that can handle a little of everything, a well-maintained Ranger has plenty going for it.
