Ford Bronco Sport Recognized as One of 2025’s Safest Used Cars for Teens!

Parents seeking a safe and reliable vehicle for their teenagers can breathe a sigh of relief, as the Ford Bronco Sport has been recognized as one of the “Best Choices” for used cars for teens in a new study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports. This accolade highlights the Bronco Sport’s strong safety features, affordability in the used market, and overall suitability for young drivers gaining independence. Despite a previous minor setback in IIHS ratings, the Bronco Sport’s fundamental safety and responsible design shine through in this important recognition.

The IIHS and Consumer Reports collaborated to create a list of used and new vehicles that offer a balance of safety and affordability for teenage drivers. The list categorizes vehicles as “Best Choices” and more budget-friendly “Good Choices,” with used model prices ranging from under $5,000 USD to around $20,000 USD. All vehicles on the list meet stringent safety criteria, including a curb weight exceeding 2,750 pounds and “good” ratings in the IIHS’s original crash tests. Additionally, they must achieve average or better scores from Consumer Reports in braking and handling, along with favorable usability ratings for displays and controls.

To earn the “Best Choice” designation, vehicles must go even further, featuring automatic emergency braking as standard equipment and achieving an “advanced” or “superior” rating in the IIHS’s vehicle-to-vehicle or daytime pedestrian front crash prevention tests. Furthermore, their headlights must earn a “good” or “acceptable” rating. The Ford Bronco Sport successfully met all of these rigorous criteria, securing its place as a “Best Choice” in the small SUV category, with an average used price of $17,500 USD. This makes it an accessible and dependable option for families prioritizing safety without breaking the bank.

This recognition underscores the Ford Bronco Sport’s commitment to safety and provides valuable guidance for parents navigating the used car market for their teens. As Jessica Jermakian, IIHS Senior Vice President for Vehicle Research, aptly stated, “Helping your kid achieve a milestone of independence shouldn’t require compromising on safety.” The Ford Bronco Sport offers a compelling combination of safety features, responsible handling, and affordability, making it a smart and reassuring choice for young drivers embarking on their journeys.
