Ford’s highly anticipated midsize electric pickup is getting closer to reality, and now the company has confirmed that customer orders will officially begin later this year. The upcoming truck represents a major step forward in Ford’s EV strategy, combining affordability, advanced technology, and practical capability into one all-new platform.

The new midsize EV pickup will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, a next-generation architecture specifically designed to reduce production costs and improve efficiency. Production is expected to begin in 2027 at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant, but buyers will get their first opportunity to reserve one much sooner.
During Ford’s Q1 2026 earnings call, Ford Blue and Ford Model e President Andrew Frick confirmed that the automaker plans to begin sharing details with dealers and opening customer orders later this year. Ford executives also emphasized that the vehicle is aimed directly at the growing demand for affordable electric vehicles, positioning the truck in one of the fastest-growing areas of the EV market.
While Ford has not yet revealed the truck’s official name, the company has already shared several exciting details about what buyers can expect. The pickup is being engineered to deliver performance comparable to a Mustang EcoBoost while also offering more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, along with a practical bed and front trunk storage area.
Affordability is clearly a major focus for Ford’s new EV strategy. The UEV platform is designed to reduce complexity, lower manufacturing costs, and streamline production. The truck is also expected to feature low-cost electric motors and will reportedly be offered in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
Perhaps most notably, Ford has hinted that the new midsize EV pickup could introduce advanced autonomous driving technology at a much more accessible price point than current systems on the market today. Combined with practical utility and competitive performance, this upcoming truck could become one of Ford’s most important EV launches yet.
