Ford’s compact pickup, the Maverick, has been a runaway success since its debut, offering buyers an affordable, versatile, and efficient option in the truck market. Now, The Blue Oval is preparing to build on that success with a brand-new van based on the Maverick platform, which is officially expected to reach production in 2028.
Originally previewed to Ford dealers in 2023, the Maverick-based van (code-named V758) was designed to replace the discontinued Ford Transit Connect in North America. At the time, a physical prototype was shown, sparking plenty of excitement. While initial rumors suggested the model could launch as early as 2025, Ford has now shifted the timeline back a few years to better align with production planning and market strategy.
The upcoming van will reportedly share much of its styling with the Maverick pickup and offer both traditional gas and hybrid powertrain options, giving customers the flexibility to choose the setup that works best for their needs. Production will take place at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico, alongside the Maverick and Bronco Sport. This move consolidates production on the proven C2 platform, which underpins all three vehicles.
Though compact van sales have cooled in the U.S., Ford’s plan shows confidence in offering a new versatile option for customers who want the practicality of a van with the approachable size and style of the Maverick. With gas and hybrid versions expected, this new entry could attract both small businesses and families looking for flexible, efficient transport when it finally hits the market in 2028.
