Ford has officially revealed a brand-new electrified version of the Bronco SUV—available exclusively in China—for now. Unveiled during China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) regulatory process, this electric SUV comes in two advanced variants: a fully electric vehicle (EV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). Though it shares its name with the iconic Bronco and some styling cues from the Bronco Sport, this new model is built by Ford’s Chinese joint venture partner, Jiangling Motors (JMC), and features design and specs tailored for the Chinese market.
The new Bronco EV and EREV models are purpose-built for China’s increasingly competitive electric SUV market. The EREV variant comes equipped with a 43.7 kWh battery offering 136 miles (220 km) of pure electric driving range, supported by a 1.5-liter turbo engine borrowed from the Ford Equator lineup. Meanwhile, the full EV version packs a 105.4 kWh battery, delivering an impressive 403 miles (650 km) of range under China’s CLTC testing cycle. With dimensions comparable to the Kia EV9, this electrified Bronco sits firmly in the mid-to-large SUV segment, blending rugged styling with modern, eco-conscious engineering.
While the Bronco EV is exclusive to China, its design—a mix of crossover-like sleekness and signature Bronco toughness—offers exciting possibilities for Ford’s global EV strategy. The exterior features a modern front fascia, a streamlined body, and a side-hinged tailgate reminiscent of the North American Bronco, yet it rides with a distinct identity suited to its market. Though it won’t be mistaken for the smaller Bronco Sport, it does bridge the styling gap between Ford’s gas-powered off-roaders and its electric ambitions.
Although there are no official plans to bring this EV Bronco to North America, its debut signals Ford’s growing commitment to EV innovation across global markets. With strong battery specs, bold styling, and a focus on electrified versatility, this SUV could serve as inspiration for future models closer to home. As Ford ramps up its global EV lineup, fans can only hope that vehicles like this might make their way west in the future.
