The GenerLink transfer switch was developed with Global Power Products and addresses one of the biggest inconveniences of using a truck as emergency backup power. Instead of running multiple extension cords from the F-150 through doors or windows to individual appliances, owners can make a single connection between the truck’s 240-volt Pro Power Onboard outlet and a transfer switch installed at or near the home’s utility meter.

Once connected, the system can energize the home’s main electrical panel. That means essentials such as lights, Wi-Fi, outlets, furnaces, security systems, and other hard-wired equipment can potentially continue operating normally, provided total demand remains within the available power limits of the truck and home. It’s a much cleaner approach than choosing individual appliances and connecting each one with a separate extension cord.

The capability is particularly impressive when paired with an F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid. Ford Authority reports that properly equipped 2021-2026 PowerBoost pickups can potentially supply an average home with power for up to five days, depending on energy usage. Compatible 2022-2025 F-150 Lightning models can provide approximately two to three days of backup power under similar circumstances.

For homeowners here in BC, the appeal is easy to see. Windstorms, winter weather, falling trees, and other unexpected events can knock out electricity, sometimes for extended periods. An F-150 that already serves as your daily driver, tow vehicle, or work truck could potentially become a substantial source of emergency household power when the grid goes down. Availability and installation requirements for GenerLink vary by utility and jurisdiction, so Canadian customers would need to confirm local compatibility before considering an installation.

Pro Power Onboard has always been one of those features whose usefulness extends well beyond traditional truck capability.
