Ford Explorer Tops Trade-In List for Mustang Mach-E Buyers in Q2 2025

Ford’s all-electric Mustang Mach-E is converting longtime Ford SUV drivers into EV owners at an impressive rate. According to Experian’s Q2 2025 Automotive Consumer Trends & Analysis Report, the Ford Explorer was the most common trade-in for new Mustang Mach-E buyers during the second quarter of 2025 — proof that more Ford families are ready to plug in.

In total, 5.25% of new Mach-E customers came from a Ford Explorer, placing it just behind the Mach-E itself as the top source of trade-ins. Many of these customers are simply moving from traditional gas-powered vehicles to an electric future, drawn by the Mach-E’s combination of performance, technology, and practicality.

Other top trade-ins included the Ford Escape (4.85%), F-150 (4.45%), and Edge (3.59%), showing that Ford’s electric crossover is appealing across multiple segments. The Mach-E also continues to attract drivers from outside the brand, pulling owners from popular models such as the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4.

The Mach-E’s loyalty numbers are equally impressive. Nearly 7.7% of new buyers upgraded from an older Mach-E, placing it among the top five EVs for owner loyalty. Meanwhile, 2.98% of buyers came from a Tesla Model 3 and 2.34% from a Model Y, proving that Ford is successfully capturing market share from key EV competitors.

This shift comes as Ford reclaims the top spot for brand loyalty overall, achieving a 59.6% loyalty score in Q2 2025, ahead of Tesla (58.1%) and Chevrolet (58%). While Tesla saw a 9.4-point drop year-over-year, Ford’s consistency demonstrates its ability to keep customers returning — and embracing its growing electric lineup.

For many families, the transition from Explorer to Mustang Mach-E represents more than a new vehicle — it’s a confident step toward Ford’s electric future.
