Ford E-Transit Confirmed to Remain in Production as Ford Refines EV Strategy

Ford recently made headlines by announcing a strategic shift in its electrification plans, placing greater emphasis on smaller EVs, hybrids, and extended-range electric vehicles. While that announcement included news that the Ford F-150 Lightning will exit production in its current form, it also raised questions about the future of Ford’s electric commercial lineup. One model, however, has now received clear reassurance: the Ford E-Transit is staying in production.

According to Ford Authority, Ian Thibodeau, Ford’s manager of investor relations, confirmed that the Ford E-Transit is not being discontinued and will continue to roll off the assembly line. While Ford has canceled plans for a next-generation all-electric van in favor of a future affordable gas and hybrid model scheduled for production in Ohio in 2029, the current E-Transit remains very much part of Ford’s commercial vehicle strategy.

The E-Transit is built alongside gas-powered Transit models at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant, giving it a stable production foundation. Despite the Transit platform dating back to the 2015 model year, Ford has shown it can extend the life of proven architectures through ongoing updates. That approach mirrors what Ford has done with other EVs like the Mustang Mach-E, which continues production despite broader changes to the lineup.

Commercial demand remains a major reason the E-Transit continues to thrive. The all-electric van has proven popular with fleet customers, including major buyers like the United States Postal Service. Businesses drawn to lower operating costs, reduced maintenance, and zero tailpipe emissions continue to see strong value in the E-Transit for urban and regional delivery use.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Ford E-Transit is set to receive meaningful upgrades that further strengthen its appeal. These updates include new vehicle configurations, optional dual onboard chargers to improve charging flexibility, and Ford’s Vapor-Injected Heat Pump as standard equipment across the lineup. Together, these improvements help enhance efficiency, especially in colder climates.

While Ford’s long-term electrification roadmap continues to evolve, the message is clear for now: the Ford E-Transit remains a cornerstone of Ford’s electric commercial vehicle offerings. For businesses exploring electric vans today, that continued commitment brings both confidence and continuity.
