Ford Patent Could Make Your Vehicle Easier To Find In Crowded Parking Lots

We’ve probably all had that moment: you walk out of a shopping centre, airport, concert, or sporting event and suddenly realize you have only a vague idea where you parked. Ford is exploring a clever new way to make that familiar parking-lot search a little easier.

According to Ford Authority, Ford has filed a patent for an “enhanced visualization system” designed to make a vehicle easier to identify in a large parking lot or crowded venue. The patent was originally filed in February 2025 and published in August 2026.

The basic idea is refreshingly straightforward. When you’re trying to locate your vehicle, you could send it a message using your smartphone. The vehicle would then display a unique identifying feature, helping it stand out from all the other cars and trucks surrounding it.

Ford Authority doesn’t specify exactly what that identifying feature might look like, leaving plenty of possibilities for how such a system could eventually work. What makes the concept interesting is that it goes beyond simply knowing your vehicle’s location on a map. It could give you a visual target to look for when you’re actually standing in a sea of parked vehicles.

That could be particularly handy in places where remembering the general location isn’t enough. Think about leaving a packed BC ski hill parking lot after a long day on the mountain, searching an airport parkade after a trip, or trying to find your vehicle among thousands of others after a major event.

As with Ford’s other patent filings, this doesn’t mean the feature is headed for production. Ford routinely patents new ideas to protect its intellectual property and specifically cautions that patent applications shouldn’t be interpreted as confirmation of future product plans. Still, if you’ve ever wandered through a parking lot repeatedly pressing the lock button on your key fob, this is one Ford idea that should be very easy to appreciate.
