Ford’s push to improve vehicle quality appears to be producing some impressive results, and the Expedition is the latest model to earn recognition. According to a recent report from Ford Authority (https://fordauthority.com/2026/07/ford-expedition-among-top-large-suvs-in-2026-initial-quality-study/), the Ford Expedition ranked among the top large SUVs in the 2026 J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study.
The redesigned Expedition finished behind only the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota Sequoia, which tied for the top position in the large SUV segment. That’s an encouraging result for Ford’s full-size family hauler, particularly because the Expedition underwent a major redesign for the 2025 model year. Launching a substantially updated vehicle can introduce additional quality challenges, making its strong showing particularly noteworthy.
Ford has put considerable effort into improving Expedition quality during production. According to Ford Authority, the automaker introduced additional testing and auditing measures that include trained drivers evaluating completed Expeditions, dozens of new finished-vehicle compliance audits, and approximately 100 inspectors per production crew working to identify potential problems before vehicles leave the factory.
The Expedition wasn’t an isolated success, either. Ford performed exceptionally well throughout the 2026 study. The F-150 ranked first among full-size light-duty pickups, the Super Duty topped the large heavy-duty pickup category, and the Mustang ranked first among sporty cars. The Explorer and Escape also earned strong results in their respective SUV segments.
Most significantly, Ford finished the study as the highest-ranked mass-market automotive brand. Ford Authority reports that the brand improved from 193 problems per 100 vehicles in 2025 to 152 in 2026, moving from 14th place overall to third and finishing ahead of every other mass-market brand. Ford CEO Jim Farley has made it clear that the company still sees room for improvement, but the year-over-year progress is substantial.
For families here in BC, the Expedition’s strong showing adds another consideration to an already compelling full-size SUV. With three-row versatility, serious towing capability, available four-wheel drive, and plenty of room for passengers and gear, it’s built for everything from daily family duty to road trips and weekends in the mountains. Strong initial quality results provide one more reason for shoppers to put the Expedition on their list.
