Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2 Outpaces Mustang GTD at the Nürburgring

The Nürburgring, one of the most legendary racetracks in the world, has long been a benchmark for measuring performance. Earlier this year, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD made headlines by recording an impressive lap time of 6:52.072, putting it in the elite group of production cars to complete the circuit in under seven minutes. But now, an unexpected Ford contender has stolen the spotlight — the all-electric Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2.

Piloted by seasoned driver Romain Dumas, the Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2 clocked a jaw-dropping lap time of 6:48.393. This feat not only bested the Mustang GTD but also placed the SuperVan as the ninth fastest vehicle ever to lap the Nürburgring, ahead of some of the most respected performance icons, including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Corvette ZR1X.

Of course, the Transit SuperVan 4.2 isn’t a production vehicle but rather a one-off EV demonstrator. Equipped with 2,000 horsepower and cutting-edge racing technology, it was originally built to showcase Ford’s engineering capabilities at events like Pikes Peak, Goodwood, and Top Gear’s test track. Still, the fact that a van can hold its own on one of the toughest tracks in the world makes this achievement all the more remarkable.

The accomplishment carries a sense of legacy too. Inspired by a famous Top Gear episode, in which the late Sabine Schmitz once lapped the Nürburgring in a Ford Transit in just over 10 minutes, the SuperVan 4.2 has taken that idea to extraordinary new heights. What was once a joke about a van on the track is now a record-setting reality — proof that innovation, humor, and performance can all come together in one unforgettable package.
