Future Ford Pickups Could Feature Convertible Bedside Work Stations

Ford continues to explore new ways to make its trucks smarter, more versatile, and more work-ready than ever. The company has filed a new patent for a bedside convertible work station, which could appear in future Ford pickup models.

Filed on February 17, 2022, and published on September 30, 2025, the patent describes a storage and power module built into the truck’s bedside that can serve as a multi-purpose workspace. Accessible from the outside of the bed, the system could help drivers safely store tools and valuables while keeping them out of sight.

This design is somewhat similar to Ram’s existing RamBox Cargo Management System, but Ford’s take adds a clever twist: a swiveling power outlet that can face either the inside or outside of the bed. This flexibility could make it even more practical for everything from powering tools at a job site to charging devices at a campsite.

The concept expands on Ford’s ongoing commitment to utility and innovation. In recent years, Ford has filed several patents for different types of convertible work stations, showing continued interest in integrating function and flexibility directly into truck design.

As with all patents, Ford notes that the filing does not necessarily indicate future production plans, but rather serves to protect innovative ideas and potential technologies for its vehicles.

Still, this concept fits perfectly with Ford’s proven approach to practical innovation — the same philosophy that brought us Pro Power Onboard and other work-ready features that redefine what a pickup can do.
