Ford SecuriAlert Trademark Filing Suggests Return of Vehicle Security Feature

Ford may be preparing to bring back one of its most useful security features. On August 12, 2025, the automaker filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the SecuriAlert name under serial number 99333593. The filing describes a sophisticated vehicle locating, tracking, and security system that could integrate GPS, cellular connectivity, cameras, sensors, and even augmented reality software for enhanced remote vehicle monitoring.

SecuriAlert first launched in Europe back in 2021, working as a smartphone-connected security tool that alerted owners if their vehicle was being accessed through doors, hood, or trunk. By using the FordPass Connect modem, it could send real-time push notifications to a driver’s phone along with the vehicle’s last known location. While this innovative system was discontinued in May 2023, the new trademark suggests Ford is considering reviving the technology in an updated form.

This development ties into Ford’s evolving approach to vehicle security. In 2022, Ford and ADT formed a joint venture called Canopy, which launched a pickup-specific security camera. Ford later acquired Canopy outright in May 2025 and discontinued the camera product, but the company has since been working on a new generation of security hardware. It’s possible that the reborn SecuriAlert name could be tied to these efforts.

While Ford has not officially confirmed SecuriAlert’s return, the filing demonstrates a continued focus on customer safety, vehicle protection, and cutting-edge connected services. As with many of Ford’s patent and trademark activities, the goal is to stay ahead of the curve in developing technology that improves ownership confidence and convenience. More details are likely to surface soon as Ford continues to shape the future of its connected vehicle ecosystem.
