The 2025 Ford Expedition is getting a refresh, and a key highlight is the availability of a high-output version of its 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. This upgraded engine delivers a notable boost in power, generating 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, compared to the standard version’s 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. This performance enhancement makes the Expedition even more capable for those who need extra power for towing or off-roading.
However, this extra power comes at a price, and it’s not available across all Expedition trims. The high-output EcoBoost is standard equipment only on the new Tremor trim, which replaces the Timberline as Ford’s dedicated off-road Expedition. This makes the Tremor the go-to choice for buyers prioritizing off-road performance and the more powerful engine.
For those looking for a more luxurious experience, the high-output engine is also available on the Platinum trim, but only as part of two optional packages. The Stealth Performance Package, priced at $6,545 USD, adds the engine along with black exterior accents for a more aggressive look. Alternatively, the Platinum Ultimate Package, a more comprehensive upgrade costing $13,570 USD, includes the engine, a unique grille, an engine sound enhancer, premium leather seating, and exclusive 24-inch wheels.
Beyond the engine options, the 2025 Expedition also boasts new features like the Ford Split Gate, a versatile tailgate design, and advanced towing technologies borrowed from Ford’s trucks, such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. The Expedition maintains its impressive towing capabilities, with a maximum capacity of 7,000 pounds without a weight distributing hitch, and up to 9,600 pounds with one. Production is set to begin in January 2025, with prices starting at $63,695 USD, including destination charges.
