The full-size SUV segment has long been dominated by the Chevy Tahoe, but the arrival of the redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition is starting to shift that balance. After recently outselling the Tahoe in the second quarter for the first time in more than five years, the Expedition has now claimed another victory by outperforming its rival in a new Edmunds comparison test.
Edmunds evaluated the 2025 Ford Expedition against the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe, comparing everything from interior quality and comfort to driving dynamics and overall value. While the Tahoe earned praise for returning to a column-mounted shifter and offering premium materials like leather and open-pore wood, testers were less impressed with the abundance of plastic controls, noting they felt dated for an SUV starting at approximately $65,000 USD.
In contrast, Edmunds highlighted the Expedition’s interior as a standout feature. Testers praised its higher-quality materials, refined leather upholstery, slim and intuitive controls, and attractive wood trim. Seating comfort was another strong point, along with generous interior space and a reclining third-row seat that adds flexibility for families and passengers.
Driving experience also played a major role in the final outcome. While the Tahoe offers a traditional V8, Edmunds preferred the Expedition’s twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost, calling it more refined and less truck-like in everyday driving. The smoother ride and responsive power delivery helped set the Expedition apart during testing.
Value further strengthened Ford’s case. In comparable trims, the 2025 Expedition King Ranch undercuts the Tahoe High Country by roughly $6,500 USD, making it a more attractive option for buyers seeking premium features without the higher price tag.
After running both SUVs through its expert rating system, Edmunds awarded the Ford Expedition a score of 7.7 out of 10, compared to 6.2 out of 10 for the Chevy Tahoe. The conclusion was clear: for comfort, refinement, space, and value, the Expedition emerged as the better overall choice for families shopping in the full-size SUV category.
