FordPass App Now Available for WearOS Smartwatches

Ford has taken a significant step to enhance convenience for Android users by making its FordPass app compatible with WearOS smartwatches. Previously exclusive to Apple smartwatches, this integration allows WearOS users to access features like locking and unlocking their vehicles, starting the engine, and viewing key vehicle information directly from their wrist. This long-awaited update is now available for download in the Google Play store.

The WearOS FordPass app includes features tailored for EV drivers, such as viewing the vehicle’s state of charge and preconditioning the cabin for a comfortable ride. The app is also customizable, enabling users to access their most-used features quickly. However, early adopters have noted some limitations, including the inability to start or stop charging sessions or operate the trunk/frunk remotely. Ford may address these requests in future updates.

There are some security measures built into the WearOS app, such as requiring a PIN or pattern lock for access, and it occasionally needs to interact with a phone to function. Despite these minor complaints, this development marks a significant milestone for Android users, who previously had limited smartwatch compatibility since the first-generation Android Wear devices supported the MyFord Mobile app.

Meanwhile, Apple iOS users have continued to enjoy new FordPass updates. Recent improvements include viewing detailed vehicle health reports, using lock and unlock commands directly from the control center, and adding widgets for quick access to vehicle information. EV owners can also adjust preferred charge times from the app’s energy tab, further boosting the user experience. With these updates, Ford continues to refine its app across both major platforms, ensuring that drivers can stay connected to their vehicles with ease.
