Ford To Ship Lectron NACS Adapters To EV Owners: Video

Following a recent agreement granting Ford EV owners access to the Tesla Supercharger network, Ford announced that it would provide a free adapter to enable its vehicles with Combined Charging Standard (CCS) ports to connect to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) chargers. However, delays in the availability of these adapters due to supply chain shortages, and a recent issue with one adapter batch, left some Ford owners waiting longer than expected. Ford quickly responded to these concerns, advising affected customers to stop using the faulty adapters until a replacement could be provided.

In a video update from Tom Moloughney of the State of Charge YouTube channel, it was revealed that Ford plans to ship Lectron Vortex CCS to NACS adapters to customers, branded with Ford’s logo. These new adapters are reported to be identical to the previous models, ensuring the same functionality and reliability. By switching to the Lectron adapters, Ford aims to not only replace the defective batch but also expedite delivery to customers who have been waiting.

The Lectron Vortex CCS to NACS adapter, which operates at 500 amps and 300 volts, is currently available for purchase for $199.99 USD from Lectron, although it is not compatible with all EV brands. For now, it is only usable with Ford and Tesla EVs, as several automakers such as Audi, BMW, Kia, and others are not supported.

Ford’s proactive approach in resolving the adapter issue highlights its commitment to keeping its EV owners connected and charged. By providing reliable replacements quickly, Ford demonstrates its dedication to customer satisfaction and to expanding convenient charging options. As the EV landscape grows, solutions like these underscore the importance of robust charging infrastructure and reliable components to keep drivers on the road.
