Ford is preparing to launch the highly anticipated Ford Ranger Super Duty in 2026, targeting global markets like Australia with a midsize pickup designed for serious capability. Built in Thailand, this robust variant will cater to those needing heavy-duty performance in a smaller package compared to the Ford F-150. Recently spotted prototypes in Dearborn, Michigan, have revealed intriguing design and functional updates that hint at the truck's impressive features.
One prototype, notably free of camouflage, showcased a rugged front end that closely mirrors the current Ranger. However, enhancements like wheel arches resembling those of the Ranger Raptor and a new skid plate suggest a bolder and more durable design. The standout feature? The Super Duty's eight-lug wheels, borrowed directly from the Ford F-250 Super Duty. This means the midsize pickup will incorporate genuine heavy-duty truck components, including 33-inch General Grabber tires, enabling it to achieve a remarkable towing capacity of 9,920 pounds USD—far surpassing the 7,500-pound limit of its North American counterpart.
Another prototype revealed a unique addition: rear-facing lighting on the inner front fender. This is a first for the Ranger lineup and hints at further functional upgrades. These changes emphasize Ford’s commitment to enhancing utility and capability for this global model.
Interestingly, despite the introduction of the Ranger Super Duty, the Ford F-150 will continue to be sold in Australia, catering to luxury buyers who prioritize comfort over raw capability. Exported directly from the U.S., the F-150 and the upcoming Ranger Super Duty will offer Australian buyers distinct options, making Ford’s truck lineup more versatile than ever.
