2021 Ford Escape vs 2021 Mazda CX-5

2021 Ford Escape vs 2021 Mazda CX-5

If you have been looking for a new SUV, you have probably noticed that the current automotive market is oversaturated with them. It seems like every auto manufacturer has its own SUV lineup, which can make it hard to decide which vehicle is the perfect choice for you. This is why most people look for the vehicle that is the most popular at the time.

Since its debut in 2000, the Ford Escape has been one of the most sought-after SUVs in Canada. This sporty SUV features a body that was built for both agility and comfort. This year, the Escape features a wide range of new amenities. To better illustrate just how impressive this model truly is, we have compared it to another exceptionally popular vehicle in its class. Here is a look at how the 2021 Ford Escape stacks up against the 2021 Mazda XC-5.

What's New

Last year, the Ford Escape received a complete makeover from head to toe. Even with its new design, Ford has found a few new ways to improve this vehicle even more this year. Here is a look at the new features that can be found on the Escape and the XC-5.

2021 Ford Escape

This year, the Ford Escape offers a Class II Trailer Tow package that allows you to easily tow large trailers and campers. There are also a few new features on the innovative Co-Pilot360 Plus package. Drivers can now find the available hybrid powertrain on more trim levels this year.

2021 Mazda CX-5

This year, the 2021 CX-5 offers a larger touchscreen infotainment display that is avoidable. The display now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features. There are also a few new driver-assist features, such as rear automated emergency parking and driver-attention alert, that are available on the top trim level.

Interior Design

Both of these vehicles offer a luxurious and comfortable interior. However, the Ford Escape offers more legroom and headspace for both front and rear passengers. The Escape also offers a larger rear cargo area. The cargo area can also be extended by lowering the rear seats in a 60/40 split. The rear seats not only fold down flat, but they can also slide forward to allow you easier access to the rear area. With the rear seats in the up position, the Escape offers 962 litres (34 cubic feet) of interior cargo space. With both of the rear seats folded down, the Escape offers up to 1,852 litres (65.4 cubic feet) of interior space.

Power and Performance

The Ford Escape offers four powerful and efficient engine options. This year, the Escape has two gas-powered engines and two hybrid powertrains to choose from. The standard 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine comes with auto start/stop technology and delivers 181 horsepower. The available 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is able to deliver an impressive 250 horsepower. There is also a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid option that combines a 2.5-litre I-4 engine and two powerful electric motors to deliver a combined 221 horsepower.

The Mazda CX-5 offers two engine options but does not have a hybrid option available at this time. The standard 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine delivers 187 horsepower. The available 2.5-litre turbocharged engine can deliver up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft of torque.
