After this year’s long and drawn out winter, your Ford car or truck is likely in need of some TLC. If so, you’ve come to the right place! At Key West Ford, we can get your vehicle in shape for spring with these car care tips:
Remove winter tires
If your vehicle is equipped with winter tires, call our Service Department to book a spring tire changeover appointment. If you don’t have winter tires, it’s still a good idea to have your tires rotated or replaced.
Check your brakes
If you notice your brakes are squealing or screeching, or if your stopping distances are longer than usual, your vehicle might be due for a brake service. Our Ford-trained Technicians can inspect, repair and/or replace any worn brake parts so that you are safe on the road this spring.
Change the oil and top up fluids
When you are having your vehicle in for a tire changeover or rotation, have an oil change completed as well. This will ensure that your vehicle is operating in tip-top condition for the spring and summer months. Don’t forget to also top up your fluids, like windshield washer fluid, anti-freeze, power steering and transmission fluids.
Check your belts and hoses
To ensure that your vehicle’s systems are working as they should, you’ll want to inspect the belts and hoses for any damage or leaks. A slipped belt or leaky hose could affect the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and braking system of your car or truck.
Inspect the alternator
Make sure that the charging system on your vehicle is working well by inspecting and testing the alternator.
Have your battery tested
Winter can wreak havoc on your vehicle’s battery. Be sure to have it tested and inspected to ensure that it is still holding a strong charge.
Give it an exterior cleaning
Nothing says spring like a freshly washed vehicle! This is a great way to wash away corrosive road salt and other debris, which can cause your car or truck to rust. Be sure to also pay attention to the underbody of your vehicle, as well as under the hood.
Clean the interior
Road salt can also damage the inside of your vehicle, as it gets tracked inside from your boots. Give the interior of your vehicle a thorough vacuuming and wipe down any surfaces. This is also an ideal time to clean and store your winter mats and apply any protectant to the dashboard, steering wheel and seats to prevent sun damage or cracking of any vinyl or leather surfaces.
Last, but not least, are your wiper blades. These should be replaced every six months or if you notice streaking, banding, chattering or an oily haze on your windshield.
