With winter about to descend upon New Westminster, B.C., you’ll want to be sure that your car’s heater is in tip top shape, otherwise, you might run the risk of catching an uncomfortable chill on your next holiday road trip.
To keep you nice and toasty warm this winter, here are some simple car maintenance tips related to your Ford’s heating system:
Check your blower motor
If you find that your car isn’t generating or blowing warm air, check the blower motor and fan first. The fan is what controls the speed at which the warm air comes out and if the flow of air isn’t strong enough or the air isn’t warm enough, it might be time to book a service appointment at Key West Ford.
Replace the cabin air filter
Another culprit of heater issues is the cabin air filter. If your vehicle is equipped with one and it becomes clogged with dirt, dust, debris or bugs, you’ll experience a decrease in airflow through the vents. You may be able to replace this filter yourself or you can have it inspected and replaced by our Technicians at Key West Ford.
Clear the air intake
Your heater can be affected when leaves, snow, ice and other debris block the air intake, which is the vented area between the hood and windshield on the outside of your vehicle. If you find this area is clogged with obstructions, be sure to remove them to see if that improves the heating situation in your car or truck.
Check your vents for vacuum system leaks
Your vehicle’s vacuum system pulls or moves air to the feet, vents or defroster. It also mixes hot and cold air to give you the desired cabin air temperature. Check each of the vents to make sure air comes out as intended. If not, you may have a vacuum system leak, which will require a service visit.
Check your coolant system
If your heater isn’t working and the coolant level in your vehicle is unusually low, then your coolant system may have a leak. The best way to find out is to have the system inspected by a Ford-trained Technician, who can diagnose and fix the issue for you.
