A rare prototype of the Ford GT40 recently earned $6.9 million at a Pebble Beach auction. Guests fought hard for this 380 HP roadster. Its V8 engine and 108 VT chassis made it a spectacular find, and its pristine condition left every buyer wanting to get behind the wheel.
Bids rolled in to the Portola Hotel and Spa (where the auction was held) and eventually an unidentified driver snagged the GT40 for almost seven million. General consensus throughout the room was that this was an exceptional bargain, with the car’s history and uniqueness reflected in the price.
Key West Ford wishes we’d been able to see the GT40 before it left the hotel. We’ll just have to content ourselves with looking at the photo (as posted on the right) for now.
