Technology is ever-evolving and Bill Ford, Executive Chairman of Ford Industries, believes it will eventually be harnessed into something spectacular - such as self-driving cars.
During an interview at the 2014 Forbes American Summit Ford spoke of the automotive industry’s future, discussing how technology has redefined manufacturing. “We used to talk in five to seven year cycles,” he said, “but we’re moving to software cycles now. We’re learning to speed everything up.”
And it’s because of this rapid progress that Ford believes self-driving cars are coming. These vehicles will be the pivotal in “allowing traffic-choked cities to work better but also for spelling future success for companies.” In time they will be prominent within North America.
The reason for Ford’s certainty stems from his understanding of the modern market. “We are a personal-mobility company,” he explained. “Whatever form that takes, that’s what we’re going to have to do.”
This will lead to self-driving (and self-aware) vehicles for the future.
