The temperatures are soon to rise; the snow will soon melt; and New Westminster drivers will spend their days conquering the open road.
Don’t roll out those all-weather tires just yet, however.
Key West Ford reminds drivers that winter tires are required in British Columbia from October 1 to April 30. This is due to recent sanctions imposed by the Ministry of Transportation, which state that harsh weather may still occur (even in Spring). Many provincial highways can suffer from sleet, ice or other rough conditions. Choosing appropriate tires, therefore, is essential.
Expect to see regulatory signs scattered along the roads. These signs - which are noted as R-047s and W-041s - will detail when winter tires or studded chains are necessary. Pay close attention to these postings and always obey them. Refusing to do so can result in heavy fines or penalty points.
Good times and high speeds are just around the corner. Drivers simply have to wait until April 30.
